in situ:’s popular two-person Macbeth returns for just four performances this month at the Leper Chapel in Newmarket Road, Cambridge.

in situ:’s Macbeth originally emerged from an ensemble piece entitled The Macbeth Project, developed by an in situ: group in 2001 and performed in a suburban house.

This in turn led to a unique reworking of the play in 2003, featuring two actors, a cast of children’s dolls and incorporating many new ideas suggested by the project, including: ventriloquism, Butoh, the Japanese movement form; the ideas of psychoanalyst Melanie Klein, who worked with children using toys; and notorious British serial killers Fred and Rose West.

The new version of the play originally debuted at the Methodist Hall, Sturton Street, where it caused some controversy. In 2009, the play was revived at the atmospheric Leper Chapel where it played to sell-out audiences and has since gone on to become one of in situ:’s most popular presentations.

(Please note that the weekend performances will most likely sell out. Please book early to avoid disappointment.)
